Astralwerks Records has partnered with international relief organization War Child for a benefit album, Heroes, which will be released on Feb. 24. Astralwerks asked legends like Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Blondie and The Ramones to choose one of their own classics and select an artist from the next generation to cover it. The resulting album consists of 16 covers by many of today's finest musicians. It includes Beck covering Dylan's "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat," Hot Chip interpretingJoy Division's "Transmission" and TV on the Radio covering David Bowie's "Heroes."

War Childis a network of independent organizations dedicated to helping children in regions affected by war. Its ministries have included music therapy programs in the bomb shelters of Saravejo, refugee education in Pakistan and material aid in Iraq.

War Child has extended the deadlines of the project several times to accommodate the quantity of artists who came forward wishing to participate in the album's creation. In a statement, they said,"It was impossible to say no."
 
 
A few years back I fell in love with a band that went by the name, Number Sine. Unfortunately this project was short lived, but left behind is a nice selection of interesting tracks.
